Local Benevolence
UCC Support
Our church supports the national UCC's benevolent offerings throughout the year in addition to giving to our local UCC conference.  We take special offerings to support Neighbors in Need on the first Sunday in October, and One Great Hour of Sharing on the fourth Sunday in Lent.  We also give to our local UCC conference to support Bethany Home for children and Phoebe Home for senoirs.  We also take part in other charity programs not associated with the United Church of Christ.
We feel it is important to reach out and help others both locally and globally from our church.  Throughout the year we give to several local organizations.  In our annual budget we support Meals on Wheels, the Tamaqua Adult Day Care, Locust Lake Ministries, Trinity UCC Food Bank, Salvation Army food bank, and several other local charities.  We try hard to help those in need who are closest to home and are our partners in making our community a better place.
There are several benevolent groups that meet here at St John, or use our facilities.  The Red Cross holds their blood drives here on a regular basis.  We are also the home of Holland Counseling services, who provide family and group counseling here at our church.  Narcotics Anonymous has 2 groups that meet at our church on different nights.  We welcome all these groups here and appreciate the services they are able to provide for our community.
Benevolent Groups
Prayer Group
We feel it is important for us to turn to God in our times of need and to give thanks to God in our times of joy.  This small group meets briefly during fellowship hour to join in prayer and lift our concerns up to God.
If you or anyone you know is in need of prayer, you can email our group at prayergstj@yahoo.com.  All infomation you provide will be kept confidential to the members of our Prayer Group.
