Our church supports the national UCC's benevolent offerings throughout the year in addition to giving to our local UCC conference. We take special offerings to support Neighbors in Need on the first Sunday in October, and One Great Hour of Sharing on the fourth Sunday in Lent. We also give to our local UCC conference to support Bethany Home for children and Phoebe Home for senoirs. We also take part in other charity programs not associated with the United Church of Christ.
We feel it is important to reach out and help others both locally and globally from our church. Throughout the year we give to several local organizations. In our annual budget we support Meals on Wheels, the Tamaqua Adult Day Care, Locust Lake Ministries, Trinity UCC Food Bank, and several other local charities. We try hard to help those in need who are closest to home and are our partners in making our community a better place.
There are several benevolent groups that meet here at St John, or use our facilities. The Red Cross holds their blood drives here on a regular basis. We are also the home of Holland Counseling services, who provide family and group counseling here at our church. We host a special needs preschool through the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit. Narcotics Anonymous has 2 groups that meet at our church on different nights. We welcome all these groups here and appreciate the services they are able to provide for our community.
If you have someone who needs to be on our prayer list, forms are available at either entrance to the church. Just drop the request in the offering plate. We will keep the name of that person on the prayer list for 4 weeks unless we are intructed otherwise. You can also call the church office to add someone to the prayer list.
