An Elder is a communicant member of the Church chosen as such by the congregation and ordained to their office. They shall assist and support the pastor in the spiritual affairs of the church. Elders shall take heed to themselves that they may be an example unto others; watch faithfully over the spiritual interests of the congregation; maintain order in the House of God; aid in visiting the sick; and minister according to their ability to the edification and comfort of all the members. They shall assist in the observance of Holy Communion when needed. In order to be eligible for the position of Elder, a church member must have served a minumum of 6 years as a Deacon.
A Deacon is a communicant member of the Church chosen as such by the congregation and ordained to his office. They shall aid in securing the funds necessary for the support of the Church in its various activities; attend to the comfort of the congregation; foster the principle of stewardship, and dispense the charities of the Church and to assist in the observance of Holy Communion when needed.
Consistory is the group responsible for the administration of our Church. The Consistory is composed of the pastor and twenty-four (24) members, of which nine (9) seats are reserved for Elders and fifteen (15) seats are reserved for Deacons. At least one (1) seat is reserved for a confirmed youth Deacon twenty (20) years of age or younger.
The Consistory is responsible for the business of the Church; its members prepare an annual operating budget for approval by the congregation; encourage the congregation to increase financial support; have an audit made of the financial accounts; and provide adequate staff to support the work of the church. It keeps a complete and accurate record of its proceedings, is the custodian of all congregational records, and makes an annual report of its activities at the annual congregational meeting.
The Consistory directs the church secretary in keeping a complete record of all baptisms, confirmations, communicants, new members, transfers, erasures, marriages and deaths.
The approval of the Consistory is necessary for the payment of all bills not covered in the authorized budget. The Consistory is responsible for all financial matters of the church and for financial record-keeping. The Consistory is responsible for maintenance and repairs to the church building and its property.
