Mission Statement

St John's United Church of Christ

We, the church of St. John strive to honor and serve God in all we do. We gather as a faithful community, actively worshipping God through word and sacrament, and strive to seek and serve Christ, by whose saving grace we are nourished and empowered. By the guiding hand of the Holy Spirit we shall:

Provide for the needs of the church community through worship, religious study, and opportunities for service to those in need, as well as foster an atmosphere of Christian fellowship to encourage spiritual growth.

Welcome and accept all people as children of God by involving them in our diverse family of faith. We recognize the unique gifts each person brings to our fellowship and we will encourage them to use these gifts in accordance with God's will for the rest of their lives.

Care, as loving stewards, for the house of God and manage the resources given to us so that they are available to be used for the Lord's purposes.

Saint John United Church of Christ acknowledges as its sole Head, Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the Saviour of men. It acknowledges as brethren in Christ all who share in this confession. It looks to the Word of God in the Scriptures, and to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, to prosper its creative and redemptive work in the world. It claims as its own faith...that of the historic Church expressed in the fundimental creeds and reclaimed in the insights of the Protestant Reformers. It affirms the responsibility of the Church in each generation to make this faith its own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God. In accordance with the teaching of our Lord and the practice prevailing among evangelical Christians, it recognizes two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion.

Our Church Doctrine:

The purpose of this church shall be to establish a Christian congregation for worship; to promote the Christian way of life; to advance the Kingdom of God by all available means, both at home and abroad; and to provide benevolent support to those in need both within our community and around the world.
